The Word “Automation” Has Led Us Astray

This term ‘Automation’ can be easily understood as any process with minimum human intervention. When we say minimum human intervention, what exactly do we mean? Is it really at the minimum scale or is it actually a toll on manual efforts at the time of resolving issues? Before we jump on to all these questions, let us focus on how automation has impacted us.

Perks of having Automation

  • Cutting Edge Innovation at your footstep – I have a wonderful experience to share here. It was when I started my career as an IT Consultant and we were expected to recommend enterprise SaaS solutions to the client keeping in mind the factors like budgets, IT resources and current technologies in use. One of the major challenges there was storage of nursery plants in the warehouse and their maintenance as different species demanded unique attention. After thorough market research and interviewing client’s team, I and my teammate found a solution that supported hand-held scanning of the barcodes thereby allowing the clients to add special instructions and time to time alerts for respective clients.
  • Accurate Operations – When we talk about automation, there needs to be an accuracy for the tasks that are repeating on a regular basis. These tasks work on a defined logic written by humans and it gets scheduled to be performed at fixed durations. It allows the IT team to focus more on tracking system’s performance and analyzing bottlenecks in the process. It brings efficiency in operations.
  • Tackling the service industry outage challenges – Outages in the service industry that are mission based like e-commerce industry and ERP systems supporting live processes are seen as a setback in terms of customer satisfaction and trust in the product. Automation, in this case, has not just been able to identify the issues but forecast the frequency and duration of upcoming issues which can be addressed in due time preventing the magnitude of the impact of outages.
  • Greater Speed in Innovation – It is imperative for us to keep up the pace with the ever-growing technology and automation comes handy here. It not only adds speed but enables the team to focus on areas that require improvement and updates. Talking about cloud services, the agility it supports has accelerated IT services in many ways giving the customers a way to move forward with dynamically changing business needs.

In an era of technology advancements where operating systems are integrated into simpler applications and these applications can be availed in the form of services. It cannot be a single human’s job to maintain and update the systems and equipment. The right automation solutions can save time and add efficiency in existing processes ensuring no human supervision and working solely on the logic.

The perks of automation are unmatchable but the challenge, however, lies in how to pick the right automation solutions. The factors to be considered before the adoption and aligning of business processes for the rest of the teams to track the performance and issues pertaining to atomation.

Exploring the above factors shall give us all more clarity on how to move further automating around.
